Career Pathways & Programs of Study

Delaware's Career Clusters, Pathways, and Programs of Study define a statewide, equity-driven career and technical education (CTE) framework. It connects K-12 education, higher education, and regional employers to ensure students graduate high school with industry-recognized credentials, college credits, and workforce-ready skills. These pathways outline sequences of academic, career, and technical courses and training. Students can use these career pathways to find their best occupational match and to help focus plans for education and training. AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

  • Develops knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade, tools, and equipment related to the trade
  • Develops knowledge of the basic systems of the automobile (Steering and Suspension, Automotive Brake Systems, Engine Operation, Components and Performance, and Automotive Electrical)

 

BUSINESS/ENTREPRENEURSHIP

  • Introduces skills needed to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate business functions.  
  • Focuses on entrepreneurship, marketing, information technology, customer service, and ethics 
  • The fourth-year senior capstone includes a paid internship managing the school cafe and school store 
  • Students have the opportunity to earn industry certifications from ServSafe (Food Handling) and Certiport (Critical Career Skills, Entrepreneurship, and Small Business)

 

DIGITAL COMMUNICATION ARTS 

  • Teaches students the visual aesthetics for advertising and journalism, laying the foundation for future careers in media, marketing, and design. 
  • Produces new ideas using creative writing, photography, cinematography & emerging technologies 

 

DRAFTING & DESIGN (CAD) 

  • Teaches students the principles of residential architecture, using the latest technology, to draft a set of working drawings.
  • Students will use architectural tools used in industry to produce floor plans, elevations, details & sections of residential dwellings.
  • Students learn how to draft manually & using CAD 

 

ENGINEERING OF ROBOTICS 

  • Explores the processes of engineering and computer science by bringing robots into the high school classroom using mechanics, applied mathematics, and computer programming with a focus on problem-solving skills, team building, and effective communication. 
  • Using LEGO Mindstorms EV3, VEX EXP and V5 Robots systems, students learn how to program basic robot behaviors using motors and sensors for rotation, sound, light, touch, and distance. 

 

GRAPHIC DESIGN 

  • Exposes students to the world of design through analysis, foundational teachings, and ultimately software application 
  • Students use Adobe programs to apply their knowledge of design in the digital world, ultimately working with real-world clients and producing a high-quality portfolio by the end of the pathway

 

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

  • for students who are interested in pursuing instrumental music at the college or professional level. 
  • Students perform in ensemble and solo settings throughout their years of study. 

 

JOBS FOR DELAWARE GRADUATES (JDG) 

  • Assists students with setting and achieving goals in their personal, academic, and professional lives.  
  • Students will receive assessments to determine skills and career interests, job skill development, job shadowing, early intervention for dropout prevention, and priority for subsidized summer employment under Workforce Investment Act criteria. 

 

VISUAL ARTS

  • Utilizes a variety of techniques, including drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, fiber, and digital art to creatively solve problems. 
  • Investigates the interplay of different media styles and design principles to create presentation-ready art pieces that communicate ideas using symbolism, mood, and conceptual ideas. 

 

VOCAL MUSIC 

  • For students who like to sing or are interested in pursuing vocal arts at the college or professional level. 
  • Throughout their course of study, students will learn vocal skills by participating in ensembles such as Concert Choir and Mixed Chorus. 
  • Students will also have opportunities to apply the skills they have learned by participating in festivals and competitions. 
  • Students not only sing in a choral setting, but also perform solos throughout their years of study.
