A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce myself as the new principal at The John Dickinson School. My name is Devearl Royster and I am so excited to be part of the TJDS community as we go on this journey together to guide your child to success and graduation. I will be working alongside our administrative team, teachers, and support staff to provide your child with a safe environment where they can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
I have dedicated my life to serving the public, first as a U.S. Marine (7 years active duty/15 years in the reserves), then as a Delaware State Trooper for 20 years. A passion for education took me to Smyrna High where I taught for three years and became an assistant principal in the Brandywine School District at both Springer Middle and Concord High School for the past 12 years. Now, I am bringing that passion to the entire Dickinson community. As the new principal, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside such a dedicated team of educators, staff, and, of course, the invaluable partners in education: our families.
I will work with parents, teachers, students, and the entire TJDS community to ensure that our students are safe and learning at high levels. Together as Rams, we will continue to provide experiences that are rigorous, relevant, and with relationships based on trust to prepare them for their future endeavors. As your new principal, it is important to me to greet everyone who enters the school with the utmost respect. I have an open-door policy and value every stakeholder’s opinion. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any concerns you may have or any suggestions that will make our school a better place for all students
