A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dickinson Families and Community,
As we approach the winter, I am proud to share the significant progress we are making toward our schoolwide goals at The John Dickinson School. Our community has shown tremendous focus, pride, and perseverance, and it is reflected in our results, so far.
Academic Growth:
Teachers and students have worked diligently to strengthen instruction, increase engagement, and improve learning outcomes. Classroom walkthroughs show higher levels of active learning, consistent use of instructional strategies, and stronger alignment to our curriculum. Students are increasingly taking ownership of their learning, especially as we reinforce expectations around completing assignments, monitoring grades, and seeking support.
Attendance & On-Time Arrival:
One of our key priorities this year has been improving daily attendance. We are seeing a steady increase in students arriving on time, ready to learn. Our attendance team continues to work closely with families, and our “Level Up” incentives are helping students stay motivated and accountable. We will continue to emphasize that every day matters.
School Climate & Behavior:
Thanks to consistent expectations and firm, fair structures, our school climate continues to improve. Staff have done an outstanding job modeling professionalism and reinforcing routines. Students are responding positively to the clear expectations, and our Tiered Supports and incentives are helping more students stay focused and engaged throughout the day. More than 95% of our students are in the green for behavior and we are excited!
Student Recognition:
Following the first marking period, we proudly celebrated the accomplishments of our students during the first marking period Level Up Assembly. Students earned wristbands for their attendance, academics, and positive behavior. These achievements reflect their commitment to meeting our school standards and striving for excellence. Our goal is to improve in tiers and earn additional wristbands throughout the year, as we Level up in everything we do!
As we move into the second half of the marking period, we remain focused on maintaining momentum, upholding high expectations, supporting student growth, and fostering a safe, positive learning environment. I am grateful for the dedication of our staff, the resilience of our students, and the support of our families. Together, we are building a stronger Dickinson.
Warmly,
Dr. Black
